_D_e_s_c_r_i_p_t_i_o_n:

     Data is a subset of a larger study on factors affecting regime
     stability in Sub-Saharan Africa

_F_o_r_m_a_t:

     A data frame with 47 observations on the following 9 variables.

     _m_i_l_t_c_o_u_p number of successful military coups from independence to
          1989

     _o_l_i_g_a_r_c_h_y number years country ruled by military oligarchy from
          independence to 1989

     _p_o_l_l_i_b Political liberalization - 0 = no civil rights for
          political expression, 1 = limited civil rights for expression
          but right to form political parties, 2 = full civil rights

     _p_a_r_t_i_e_s Number of legal political parties in 1993

     _p_c_t_v_o_t_e Percent voting in last election

     _p_o_p_n Population in millions in 1989

     _s_i_z_e Area in 1000 square km

     _n_u_m_e_l_e_c Total number of legislative and presidential elections

     _n_u_m_r_e_g_i_m Number of regime types
